Efterklang & Copenhagen Phil. - “The Living Layer & Vælv”
How beautiful is this? It’s taken from the upcoming live record “The Piramida Concert” (June 10th). Efterklang played together with the Copenhagen Phil. last October. “Vælv” is a classical piece Efterklang commissioned and composed by Karsten Fundal - for me it has something of an old movie soundtrack filled with emotions. This first bit sound huge. It’s not the first time they release a live album where they play with an orchestra - on “Performing Parades” (2009) they did the same. And that one is amazing, so let’s all get excited for this one.
Last weekend I saw Efterklang live in the Postbahnhof, Berlin. Amazing as always (as the one time I have seen them beforehand). They made the whole audience whistle sounding a million birds in Springtime, we all sang in a huge choir and we all clapped in the same rhythm. It was a bit like a group experience.
The applause after every single song was huge. Most of the songs were from the new album “Piramida”, some from “Magic Chairs” and some even older. The atmosphere was great, some (I) were dancing throughout the whole concert, some just stood there listening and watching.
At one point they stopped the whole concert to read out letters from Dresden to Berlin - it was a little weird when you were just fully soaked into their music. But it is such a sweet idea to have the crowd from the concert before writing little messages to the next city (and even certain persons there!) that it didn’t matter in the end. For us it was Warsaw.
Last song of the encore: improvising “Alike” without amplification (except for guitarist). Just amazing. I like their new drummer Tatu Rönkkö because he can use whatever is available and make it sound good.
In the beginning of the year I saw him live with Nils Frahm and Peter Broderick improvising - sheer beauty. He just went into the kitchen of the Michelberger Hotel, Berlin, and took some metal pots and pans. It did had something of a childish playfulness to it which worked out very well.
Thank you for reading,
Dörte

Oliveray - Wonders (3-Track Album Preview) by erasedtapes
I feel a bit poorly today, so what else should I listen to but relaxing music? Oliveray is the project of Peter Broderick and Nils Frahm. They are friends. The have made an album called “Wonders” and these are 3 of the 8 tracks. I would go so far and say you can hear the good chemistry going on between these two.
“Harmonics” is a cover song. The original is a song from Efterklang - a band Broderick is touring with. And I have told you about “You don’t love” a couple of month ago, I think. It was answer number 16, I recommended you to listen to. It didn’t lost its magic. It’s also a free download. The whole album is actually simply wonderful. It’s kind of floating. And it sounds so incredible effortless. I love it.
Have a good Sunday,
Dörte
